5 Best All Natural Remedies For Period Cramps You’ve Never Heard Of
You know the feeling ladies. Those dreaded 4-7 days that seems to creep up on us once every month. Most women have had to deal with period cramps at some point in their lives. I for one have always been plagued with some of the worst period cramps on Earth from the beginning. I’ve tried every known method out there from birth control pills, diet change, exercise, eating yogurt, you name it. But sometimes, these basic steps just aren’t enough. I have provided 5 somewhat unknown natural remedies for period cramps that you’ll want to look in to if you’ve suffered like I have.
Keep in mind that you should continue making the most healthy choices while taking these natural remedies for period cramps. Improving your diet, exercising and staying hydrated is a basic necessity for regular menstrual cycles.
1.) Increase Your Iron Intake
Many women needlessly suffer from period cramps because of unknown iron deficiency. Increasing your iron intake every month can help to decrease and even eliminate PMS and menstrual cramps entirely. You can consume more iron rich foods such as spinach, dark chocolate, tofu and black beans to help improve your monthly experience. You can also take a natural iron supplement that promotes healthy blood cell production in the body. If you suffer from diabetes, kidney disorders or have had a heart attack recently, consult your doctor before increasing iron intake.
2.) Organic BlackStrap Molasses
Blackstrap Molasses is one of my favorite natural remedies for period cramps on this list. This one food alone cleared up 90% of my period problems almost immediately after taking it. It contains a powerful blend of Iron, calcium, Magnesium and other nutrients for getting rid of period cramps and PMS. For the best results, take 1-3 tablespoons per day depending on your own personal needs. It doesn’t taste great, so if you can’t stand the taste by itself, you can mix it with tea instead.
Be sure to go for the Organic Unsulfered Blackstrap Molasses brands, as the regular stuff hasn’t worked as well in my experience. You can buy it for under $12 on Amazon right now. One bottle of molasses can usually be stretched for about 1 1/2 to 2 months even at the maximum dose.Buy Organic Blackstrap Molasses on Amazon
My personal technique
As mentioned earlier in the article, I used to suffer from crippling period cramps every month since I was 14. This is a tried and true method that’s worked for me for the past 2 years. I take 1 tablespoon everyday from the beginning of my cycle to a few days before my period arrives. From then on, I take 3 tablespoons per day before, during and just after the end of my period. I then go back to just 1 tablespoon per day, I just rinse and repeat.
3.) Apple Cider Vinegar
I’m beginning to think that there’s nothing that Apple Cider Vinegar can’t fix. We’ve already learned about some of the amazing benefits of ACV vinegar in the diet from another article I posted a while back. Believe it or not, it can also help to get rid of PMS, period cramps and Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding). Take 2 tablespoons of Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water once a day before meals. ACV is rich in calcium and potassium and can stop excess bleeding and cramps associated with heavy bleeding.
I personally take 2 tablespoons in a glass of water when I wake up in the morning and before dinner. Not only has it helped with my heavy menstrual bleeding and cramps, but I’ve also managed to lose weight in the process.
Numerous studies have shown that magnesium may play a vital role in the monthly menstrual cycle. Magnesium deficiency can cause a condition known as Dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps) and PMS symptoms. Almonds, avocados, dark chocolate and cashews are all very rich in magnesium and should be added to your regular diet. If you choose to supplement magnesium, be sure to use an all natural absorbent magnesium supplement with no preservatives or artificial ingredients.
Magnesium can also be found in blackstrap molasses as highlighted above.
Ginger is an effective natural remedy for period cramps. I prefer using raw ginger in a warm cup of water throughout the days leading up to my period. I live next to a huge Asian market so I can find high-quality ginger root for relatively cheap. Alternatively, you can drink organic ginger tea twice a day as well if you cannot find raw ginger in your area.
